Piano, Percussion, and Composition

Private Lessons

Mark teaches Piano, Vibraphone, Percussion, Drums, Theory, and Composition from his Studio in the Dogtown Arts District in West Oakland. Mark has over a decade of teaching experience, and is certified educator with  the Music Teacher's Association of California in both piano and percussion. Mark has had the pleasure of lecturing worldwide at many higher learning institutions including Nagoya University, The Jazz School, UCSD, Pasadena City College, the Lamont School of Music, and he has worked as a mentor and educator with the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts and the Colorado Symphony Orchestra summer programs.
Mark is an active and enthusiastic educator. In private studies, Mark is a firm believer that every student is a unique learner, and he strives to motivate each student by creating a custom curriculum that fits to their needs and interests. Mark uses traditional pedagogy to develop a strong technical foundation combined with elements such as transcription of songs, composition and theory, improvisation, and ear training games. Mark has experienced his life through the lens of music, and he encourages his students to seek musical inspiration from the world around them.
